About our Small Pet Boarding
RabbitsGuinea PigsHamsters, Mice etc.I am experienced in all aspects of small animal ownership, care and handling, having owned rabbits for over 30 years, guinea pigs for 20 years, as well as hamsters and fancy rats in the past. I am fully insured, hold an enhanced DBS check and offer a friendly and professional service, giving you peace of mind that your small pets are properly cared for while you relax on holiday.
I also run Powys Small Pet Pampering, which was established in 2020 with many satisfied clients.
Accommodation:
I offer boarding for small pets, mostly guinea pigs, but also fully vaccinated rabbits, hamsters, fancy rats, mice, etc.
They are housed in a secure and weatherproof wooden summerhouse in my garden and treated as if they were one of my own animals, with a minimum of twice daily checks, feeding and watering as well as regular cleaning out. The space is unheated so I do not accept skinny pigs at any time, other animals will be considered in the winter months upon discussion.
I provide plastic ferplast type cages for guinea pigs and rabbits in varying sizes, unlimited hay, food and water bowls/bottles and fresh green food twice daily. You can either provide your own bedding and dry food or use mine (dust-extracted wood shavings and Twitch guinea pig nuggets/Gerty guinea pig mix, Burgess Excel rabbit pellets/Fancy Feed Bunny Nuggets). I can also provide dried grass (Readigrass) and dried forage (leaves, flowers and herbs) if your pet likes to eat these foods. If you wish to bring your own cage then this may also be possible, and for hamsters, fancy rats and mice you will need to bring your own cage, bedding and food.
Health & Hygiene:
Plastic cages are used as these are easier to disinfect between guests than wooden ones. A veterinary grade disinfectant is used to clean cages, bowls/ bottles as well as the floor in the summerhouse.
Rabbits are only accepted if proof of up to date and correct vaccinations (against myxomatosis, RHD1 and RHD2) can be provided.
My own local veterinary practice is excellent with small animals if your own was not close to me, and I am happy to administer medication to pets requiring this at additional cost after discussion with yourself as to their requirements.
Small Pet Boarding Prices
Prices from 1st April 2023:
Guinea pigs: £5 per night for one in a cage, £7.50 per night for two sharing, £10 per night for three sharing.
Hamsters, fancy rats, mice and similar: £2.50 per night for one in a cage, £4 per night for two sharing, £6 per night for three sharing
Rabbits: £8 per night for one in a cage, only if fully vaccinated and proof is shown, please contact me to discuss further.
Cancellation with 73 hours notice or more will incur no cost. Cancellation with 24 to 72 hours notice: 50% of costs payable, cancellation at less than 24 hours notice: 100% payable.

My sister business, Powys Small Pet Pampering was established in 2020 and offers rabbit and guinea pig claw cutting (either at my home or my mobile service), as well as guinea pig bathing, grease gland cleaning and grooming. Guinea pig and rabbit boarding guests will be given a free claw cut (if required) on all stays of two nights or more, and I also offer 10% off guinea pig bathing treatments during their stay.

Our two guinea pigs had a wonderful stay with Powys Small Pet Boarding. Fiona was attentive and accommodating to all their needs. They had a claw cut too which is so helpful. Fiona was very flexible with drop off and collection times and easily contactable. We had some picture updates through the stay too which my daughter loved. The pet housing is lovely and clean, nice large cages with all sorts of accessories and food available. Positively a piggy paradise! Thanks again!

We have now used Fiona's services on several occasions for our rabbit and hamster. Fiona's expertise and knowledge in keeping and caring for small pets is truly impressive, as is her meticulous attention to biosecurity. She gives her boarders as much attention and care as if they were her own animals. Having a peace of mind that your animals are safe while you're away has no price. That said, prices Fiona offers are competitive and affordable. Couldn't recommend Powys Small Pet Boarding enough!

Highly recommended service. Not only is Fiona a great person to deal with, her expertise in keeping and handling small pets is truly impressive, as is her knowledge of biosecurity, animal behaviour and welfare. We were incredibly lucky to have found Fiona and her small pet boarding facility. While we were away on holidays for two weeks, our rabbit and hamster were truly spoilt and pampered at Fiona's. We had regular updates with photos and short videos on how they were doing, which were very much appreciated particularly by our children. Look no further if you need somewhere safe and reliable to leave your pets while you are away. We are already booking another stay for ours!

I have known the owner of this business for 25 years and she has always had small animals of her own from hamsters and fancy rats to gunia pigs and rabbits. She has a wealth of knowledge and always maintains the highest standards of feeding, housing, and all over welfare. Any pets left with her will be given the same standards of care and affection as her own. I have no hesitation in recommending her services and she has looked after my pets including my guine pigs on many occasions.
