About our Home Boarding

Hi I'm Rachel, Rachels Pup Retreat is home to home dog boarding and day care business we understand that not all dogs are suited to kennels and owners want a more personal approach, therefore their pet becomes a part of our family for the duration of their stay with us. I attended Shuttleworth collage and completed courses in animal care and animal management. For the past 3 years we have been puppy raisers for guide dogs helping them socialize and get used to their surrounding for when they are old enough to go into training.

Accommodation:

All dogs have access to the downstairs of our home including the garden that has a surrounding 6ft fence for security, the garden is sectioned off one area is grass where the dogs can run around and the 2nd area is gravel and slabs where they can go toileting or have a sniff. in the house they will have the downstairs area where they can roam, in the living room we will set up their sleep areas depending if they like being on sofas have their own beds or crates it will be made comfy. we have security measures at all doors we have a k9 front door gate and a retractable gate as a second security measure, stairs and doorways also have stairs gates.

Exercise:

All dogs will have 2 walks a day and these will be either at our local woods where with your consent we can let them have a run around off lead (only if they have good recall) we will also hire a local secure dog field with your consent where all dogs can have off lead runs and walks around our local area.
puppies will have walks based on their age adding 5mins to each month. older dogs will have 30mins to a 1hr or more twice a day depending on health reason which we will take into consideration.

Health & Hygiene:

All dogs will be looked over as soon as they arrive this will include looking at eyes, ears, mouth, nose, paws and coat for any signs of illness or injury and this will also be after every walk, all dogs need to have up to date vaccinations puppies need to of had their 2nd set of vaccinations 1 week prior to coming to us and older dogs need to have an up to date booster. any dogs that have kennel cough need to have it 2 weeks prior to coming into our care. all flea and worming treatment needs to be up to date before coming to us and dates need to be written down on client forms.
we are registered with a vets called Boness in Barton this is for any emergency that may happen in our care. we are happy to give medication to any dogs that need it we have a secure cupboard in the kitchen that locks that we will keep it in we just ask that you put it in a clear container that's named, dated and dosages are written down on it, We WON'T be able to administer medications that are injection.

We do require a 4 week notice on the first time you board with us, this is only so that we can do 2 meet and greets with you and your dog(s), 1st meet and greet will be at your house to go over client forms, consent forms and you will be given a policy to look through and for me to get to know your dog in their own environment, 2nd meet and greet will be at our house and that will be for your dog to meet our resident cats and dog and to go on a couple minute walk to see how the dogs get on. we will then offer a half/full day or an overnight trial just to make sure your dog will be comfortable with us.
