I am a mature, empathetic person who has grown up with dogs in our home, from birth. I have always had a dog and/or a cat. I have been owned by Sealyhams, Fox Terriers, Labradors and Jack Russells, plus a few mongrels over the years. I am passionate about animal anti-cruelty and genuinely love all animals. My animals are part of my family and are dearly loved...and, yes, a little spoiled. Yet my present little Jack Russell is well trained and listens to commands. I expect good behaviour and get it with love and treats, never punishment.
I now live in the beautiful village of Farmborough, surrounded by fields and forests which provide wonderful walks for dogs. My home is small, as is the garden, but it is adequate and the garden is fully enclosed .
Please note, that because the home and garden are small, I usually take in only small- and medium- sized dogs as boarders, and preferably no puppies. This is negotiable on discussion with the owner.
A Meet and Greet is essential once a tentative booking is made. This is so the owner can see the accommodation, the facilities available etc. and I can assess if the dog will get on with us. And if the owner is happy and I am happy (and Othello is happy!) we can confirm the booking.
My booking form with all the details that I require for boarding your dog has to be completed and signed for us to discuss on this Meet and Greet.
I only take one dog in at a time (maybe two from the same home), so that they can get individualised attention. There are sometimes overlaps as one dog comes in and the other goes out. I always contact the owners of the dogs to ask them if they mind their dog being in with another for one or two nights. The clients and the dogs (no, the dogs and then the clients!!) must be happy.
I am fully insured for home boarding of pets. You can check this link: https://www.protectivity.com/product/pet-business-insurance?showCert=true&policy=LkegJbxfoKekS
My dog and the boarder/s are walked daily, twice a day at least, usually for 45 mins to an hour each time. Farmborough is very dog friendly and we meet lots of other dog walkers. The dogs have lovely romps with other dogs in the fields. In the evening, we have a short 'wee' walk before everyone goes to bed. We occasionally travel by car to Greyfield Woods, Rainbow Woods and the Odd Down Sports Centre Woods in Bath as well as other lovely parks where the dogs can have wonderful walks and time to socialise with other dogs. It's a dog's life!
Health & Hygiene:
All the dogs I look after have to be fully vaccinated, de-wormed and de-flead, as mine is. Recent de-fleaing before the dog arrives is most important, as one flea can provide up to 1000 eggs in my home!
The dog's own (freshly cleaned) bed is to be provided. This will be washed and dried before the dog returns home and often during the stay too (especially if on a long stay)
Their preferred food is to be provided, with full instructions of 'dosage' - to prevent tummy upsets and to make the home from home experience proper!
The dogs in my care have to be microchipped (this became compulsory for all dog owners on 6th April 2016) and a name tag and a mobile number on their collar is required legally too. I provide DBWO tags as well
And, sorry, both female and male dogs have to be neutered.
Home Boarding Prices
£22/night for overnight boarding; £15/day for day boarding; £10 once-off to take the dog to your vet; £7 one way to pick-up and deliver your dog. More than two consecutive nights stay get a 10% discount, as do repeat bookings.
My cancellation policy is flexible, but in summer I need at least one month's notice. I take a deposit to secure the booking and this will be forfeited if cancelled at short notice. This is my very busy time and and I am usually fully booked. If I can fill the space, I will negotiate on returning the deposit.
I only accept full payment (less any deposit) up front.
As I have moved out of Bath (Farmborough is only 9 miles from the centre of Bath), I offer a collect and return service where possible. I have carriers for small and medium sized dogs and also a seat belt attachment to secure them in my car, should you be worried about them travelling loose in my car.
Having recently moved to Bath we were looking for a new minder for our 14 year old Cocker Spaniel, Tiffany. She is still agile, a little set in her ways and grown to be totally deaf so not necessarily an easy boarder. Sandra came up trumps and offered the extra care and attention that was required and helped Tiffany to settle happliy into the new surroundings. We would definitely like Tiffany to visit again when we travel and there would be no argument from Tiff either!

I found DBWO through a google search when my usual dog sitter was unavailable. Sandra was so helpful and well organised from the outset; she really does take animal welfare seriously. My Golden Retriever was well looked after and taken for lovely, long walks.
I have no hesitation in recommending DBWO.

We boarded Sparky and Tintin with Sandi for a week in October. This was Sparky's third stay with Sandi and Othello, and Tintin's first. They both had a ball!
Sandi is so kind and lovely with them, she understands their various (and numerous!) JRT traits and we never have any worries about leaving them with her; it's so lovely to be able to go away and not fret about them. We always hugely appreciate the daily Whatsapp photos and funny updates of their escapades, and love being able to see what they've been up to during the day.
Sparky is already booked in for his next holiday with Sandi and Othello, and is already ticking the days off on his doggy calendar until he sees his friends again.
Thank you, as always Sandi. We are so very appreciative of the love and care you give our boys.

Reggie went straight into Sandi's home as if it was his second home. He loves being at her home and also loves being with Othello, which is brilliant as he is not generally keen on other dogs or people,. We are so glad that we found her and would not feel happy letting Reg go anywhere else. There are lovely areas for dog walking at her new home too which is a real bonus.

Two happy weeks for our JR with Sandy and Othello. Won't hesitate to return. Lots of cuddles.

I would thoroughly recommend Sandra and Othello, they both made Florrie my 4 year old cockapoo feel very welcome in their cosy house. It was a genuine home-from-home experience with Florrie getting lots of attention and cuddles, as well as energetic walks in the countryside. Sandi kept me updated with lots of cute photos and messages letting me know that florrie was enjoying herself while we were away, which was very reassuring. If you want your dog to feel loved, secure and happy while you are away, then Sandi and Othello are the best team!

We have used Sandi three times to look after our dog. She's done a fantastic job. She clearly loves dogs which is very reassuring, takes the time to really get to know them individually, likes, dislikes etc and is very friendly and easy to deal with. We would definitely recommend her. Phil

Our cavachon Pebbles very much enjoyed her stay with Othello. Sandi is very caring and keeps in touch to reassure you that all is well with regular "pupdates". I would not hesitate to recommend her and Pebbles enjoyed so many lovely walks and lots of attention. We will be re-booking!

We were extremely impressed with Sandi's professional, caring and safe facilities, and would highly recommend Boarding with Othello! Sandi took great care over making sure our miniature dachshund was lovingly looked after, sending us regular WhatsApp photos and updates, while keeping a constant watch on his welfare to make sure he was settling in well and felt content. Sandi's garden is perfectly secure so we were assured that our dog would not be able to run away, not that he would have wanted to!! Othello is a lovely little dog and they both made us most welcome.

What a find! Sandi has an admirably robust attitude towards any little foibles and seems to take everything in her stride (aided by the gorgeous Othello). Not having left our three year old border collie with anyone but family we were a little apprehensive, but Sandi sent regular photos and reports via Whatsapp which was so reassuring. Highly recommended!

Sandie looked after our French Bassett Hound , Basil when we went away for a week. He had a ball ! Sandie is so caring and considerate and takes care of every detail to ensure the dogs welfare and happiness. We were so pleased to get regular WhatSAp updates and pictures. We would highly recommend Sandie .

We were drawn to Sandi & Othello's profile after searching google for pet sitters near Bath! We have a little 9 year old "Aussie bitsa" (a bit of this and a bit of that) whom is very much part of our family. We flew him across from Oz in October and needed to find someone who would love and understood his quirky human like nature!
Hand on heart, I can say, we hit the jackpot in one!
Sandi (and O) are perfect hosts and carers for Cody! Sandi is always prompt in answering our sometimes short notice requests for Cody's stay! We have happily left him several times now and he loves his second home!
Sandi is a true animal lover and that resonates through to the dogs she looks after!
We highly recommend Sandi and Othello as confident, caring, energetic and professional dog sitters!
From Kerry & Cody on
Boarders Response:Thank you, Kerry. Your 'Aussie Bitsa' is my special friend and we will always try and make space for him.
We took our beagle Bentley to Sandra whilst we went away for a few days. We have never left him before so we're quite anxious. We met Sandra and Othello beforehand to have a chat and ask any questions. This was most helpful. Whilst away we were sent updates and photos and at once knew our little fellow was having the time of his life and in safe hands. Brilliant
From Helen Bean on
Boarders Response:Thank you, Helen. Bentley is always welcome in our home, as you know.
Sandi took our dog Tess on with short notice which we were so grateful for, Tess is a real handful but we were confident that Sandi and Othello would look after her well,Sandi even did some training with her which was great,we will definitely use her again instead of kennels, thank you Sandi and Othello

Sandi and Othello have looked after Maisie our 2 year old Springer Spaniel on several occasions now. As we all know it is always a wrench leaving them to go away but we have found that as we arrive at Sandi's house Maisie's tail starts wagging and she leads us to the door with enthusiasm! Sandi looks after her in every way so well, it is a real home from home for Maisie and the daily Whats App photos showing us how very happy she is both on walks/runs (well she is a Springer!) and in the house snoozing or playing with Othello puts our minds at ease and allays any feeling of guilt we might have had at leaving her. Maisie is very obviously having a lovely time!
I have no hesitation at all in recommending Sandi and Othello to anyone needing excellent, professional care for their dog in a loving and comfortable home.
Thank you Sandi.
With love from Maisie and Gil and Pete van Praag

We have just stayed in Bath on a caravan site so we could attend a family wedding but needed good care for our dog Misty on the big day itself, Sandi and Othello were exactly the the thing we needed. I founded her through this web site and after several communications with her and then finally meeting her and her lovely little dog Othello, I knew I could leave Mist in her very friendly capable care, the dog walks are fantastic and she obviously loves all the animals she cares for, we can highly recommend her services and I hope that if we come this way again we will get the chance to meet up with them both again, many thanks Sandi , we had a relaxed stress free day knowing Misty was being well looked after. Chilli, our 2 year old Vizsla, is a very active boy who needs plenty of exercise and attention. He is very loving but can be demanding. He stayed with Sandi and Othello for a week when we were abroad. It was so reassuring to have such a dedicated carer and it was brilliant that he hit it off with Othello. Sandi sent us photos while we were away; it was great because this was the first time we had left him and allied us to enjoy our holiday without worries. Sandi is a star and I would recommend her wholeheartedly as a loving, very competent dog carer

Having not left our rescue dog for three years, due to worrying about him as he has some funny little traits, being a rescue, we found Sandi. She is a lovely friendly person who is brilliant with dogs and treats them as her own. Our Pomeranian Reggie does not warm to many people but got to love Sandi which was brilliant for us. She sent us pics and updates on Reggie whilst we were away so that we did not worry about him. So glad that we found her and will not hesitate to leave Reg with her again. Thank you so much Sandi and Othello .

Right from the start Sandi welcomes you into her home. She is a kind lovely lady with a great little companion, Othello. I felt completely happy leaving Benji in her care. Lots of lovely walks ,cuddles and plenty of messages and photos of his antics to put your mind at ease. Thanks Sandi and Othello you are great so glad we found you!

We had to leave our puppy for a week while away on holidays. We obviously had a lot of concerns, as it was a first for us. However, Sandy made sure to follow our big list of instructions and always kept us up to date with Whatsapp pictures and comments, and gave our puppy a lot of love. If you must leave your dog while away, do not worry, as I am absolutely sure Sandy will take care of your little as she did of ours. Thank you Sandy and Othello!

We had Sandy look after our little springer spaniel x for 10 days over Christmas. Sandy was professional, warm, considerate and best of all she loves animals. Soy was cared for so well and was happy with a wagging tail when we returned to pick him up. Sandys home is really well equipped and it is surrounded by wonderful dog walks. She is a wonderful person who takes great pride in her work. We will most definitely use Sandys services again and would highly recommend her. And lets not forget beautiful little othello, Sandys dog...he is the sweetest most playful little boy ever! Sandy thanks so much...soy had a wonderful time and we will be in touch again soon. Many thanks Brianna, Darrel and Soy. Xx

This was my first time leaving my rescue dog in someone else's care and, knowing how nervous my boy is, I was more than apprehensive as to how he'd cope. I needn't have worried so much! From our initial meeting a few months ago, it was clear Sandi adores dogs, and she put my mind at rest straight away. Nothing has been too much trouble, and Sandi made it clear straight away that my boy's various ~quirks~ wouldn't be an issue for her. I hugely appreciated all the whatsapp updates and lovely photos while I was out of the country; the photos clearly showed just what a fantastic time he had with Othello and his new chums, and he returned to us a very happy and relaxed dog.
Sandi - you know just how worried I was about leaving him. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for taking such good care of him, and for allowing me to stop fretting about him while I was away. You are one in a million.

Our decision to leave our dogs with Othello and Sandi could not have turned out better. From the first point of contact Sandi helped as much as possible, fitting in around what suited our plans and making us feel completely relaxed about the whole process. It was really reassuring to find someone who understood that this was important, particularly as we had never used this kind of service before. We would admit to being slightly nervous to leave our dogs with someone we'd never met for the first time, but our contact with Sandi prior to the boarding gave us easily enough reassurance that our dogs would be in great care with her.
I should add that our 2 dogs have very different characters, so we were keen for this to be taken into account (e.g., of how they might react to us leaving or being on a walk without us - for instance, our male dog is hard of hearing and isn't always the easiest at recall on walks.) None of this was a problem however (as it turned out, we were asked about this prior to the boarding anyway) and again, this is a credit to Sandi, as in my opinion it is a skill in itself to look after several dogs at once who all have different characters and behaviour.
Again, we couldn't be happier with how the boarding went. I would even say that Othello was also a great host / playmate for our dogs, as he is such a friendly, loving boy that it would have been impossible for our dogs not to get along with him too.
Thank you guys for making our day away from our pups so much more relaxing and enjoyable.

We were a little nervous about leaving Remus with anyone new as he has only been left with family in the past. Sandi and Othello looked after Remus whilst we attended a family wedding and he slept over bag evening too. Sandi was lovely with Remus right from the minute we arrived. We took a quick walk around the field at the end of her road so that Remus and Othello could get introduced and I thought that was really considerate - great idea. Sandi asked all the questions she needed to know about Remus and very obviously cares about any animal that she looks after. Loved the whatsapp updates so we could see pictures of Remus enjoying himself too! Importantly, Sandi was really accommodating on times for drop off and collection too - that was a great help when getting a family of five ready for a wedding! We would use Sandi again if needed in the future and rest assured your dog would be in good hands with her and Othello.

From our first visit to meet Sandi and Othello, Sandi has always been very caring and welcoming. The dogs had a wonderful time and I enjoyed getting updates and photos from her whilst we were away. It's brilliant to know that they are so well looked after. Othello is a lovely little chap and great with welcoming new dogs in to his home.

We have collected our much loved Maggie the vizsla today from her 2 week holiday with Sandi and Othello! We were quite nervous about leaving her, knowing how much love and attention she is used to and wanting to be able to find the perfect home from home for her! We needn't have worried at all - Maggie couldn't have asked for a more wonderful holiday home! She settled immediately as she was greeted warmly by Sandi and lovely Othello! Sandi is friendly, professional and clearly a true dog lover! Maggie was given the exercise and companionship she craves and we were sent regular pictures and updates whilst we were away! We live quite a way from Sandi, but in the future I won't be trying to find anywhere closer for Maggie's care - here will always be my first choice!!

I higly recommend Sandi and Othello to take care of your furry friends. We were very uneasy about leaving our dog Winston even though only for 2 nights but Sandi made us feel very comfortable about it all and sent us updates with pictures to let us know how he was getting along. He seemed to really enjoy himself and I wouldnt hesitate in using dog boarding with Othello again. Sandi also obliged with a very short notice request.

My friend found Sandi on this brilliant website and after speaking to her on the phone I felt very happy to be leaving Percy with her. She is as delightful as she sounds and obviously a natural dog lover. The hilarious photos of Percy and Othello playing with the toy chicken made us laugh and made us sure of our choice of dog carer. We could ask Sandi at anytime of day how Percy was and she always replied with photos and plenty of information. A really lovely lady.

Sandi is a wonder! Her lovely email reports whilst we were away gave peace of mind. Loved the homely feel for our dog, so it wasn't like boarding and she even clipped his fur with lots of love and care after checking with us. Highly recommend!
We now live in the country, in the beautiful village of Farmborough, 9 mlies out of the centre of Bath. It takes 17 minutes by car to get here from the centre of Bath. Farmborough is positioned halfway between Bristol and Bath. We are surrounded by extensive fields and woods - great for dogs to run free in. I will send an email with directions and the postcode once a meet and greet visit has been arranged. Our new home is easy to find.
Please call for availability and to arrange a visit (first one is OUTSIDE of the home with the dogs, so there are no territorial issues when my dog meets yours). I can be contacted most of the time on the mobile number. If no answer, please leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I am able. Times of boarding are open to individual negotiation.
