About our Small Pet Boarding

We board: RabbitsGuinea Pigs

We are a wife and husband team having over 40 years combined hands-on experience associated with rabbit boarding and professional rabbit showing at national level.

Throughout our showing career we won numerous awards, including the much coveted Supreme Champion Certificate for our Blue-Eyed White Netherland Dwarf. We also showed British Giants, and contributed to defining the British Giant Breed Standard which is recognised today by the British Rabbit Council.

We are members of the British Rabbit Council, and Rabbit Welfare Association.

Accommodation:

The Rabbitry was purposely designed and professionally built for housing rabbits and guinea pigs.

Rabbit hutches measure 6ft long x 2ft high x 2 ft deep and adhere to the recommendations prescribed and adhered to by individual animal welfare organisations including RWAF and PDSA. Each spacious hutch offers pets the ability to exhibit as much of their natural behaviour as possible including,;- hopping, sitting, playing, laying fully stretched, standing on hind legs, and digging. We also offer taller hutches for Giant breeds. Guinea pig hutches measure 5ft x 2ft x 18". Please see web site for full details.

The brick built structure including tiled roof and terracotta tiled floor helps maintain an even temperature throughout the summer months thereby eliminating the risk of heat stroke. During the cold winter months we closely monitor day and night time temperatures, and heat the building with oil filled radiators on timers. Snugglesafe heat pads are also available.

The building offers a spacious, clean, bright and well ventilated living environment with day light balanced lighting for your pet's comfort.

Professionally fitted remotely monitored 24 hr CCTV cameras operate within the Rabbitry and also the external perimeter of the building.

In line with our business insurance provider, we hold an up-to-date electrical certificate for the business premises issued by a contractor approved by the NICEIC.

Exercise:

At Barnsley Bunny Boarding we strongly believe in adhering to the daily practice of disease control within the Rabbitry through high sanitation levels and therefore do not provide outside runs on grass for rabbits to share. Shared runs on grass in a boarding environment cannot be disinfected between boarders, and therefore pose a serious health risk to rabbits and guinea pigs.

In line with RWAF guidelines as set out on page 45 of their "Hop To It", The RWAF guide to rabbit care, they stress the following, when choosing a rabbit boarding facility,

"Hutches should be cleaned using a modern disinfectant product (e.g. Virkon) between residents to ensure they are not going to catch anything from the previous occupant (the brain/kidney parasite E. Cuniculi can live for some time on surfaces), and although it is nice for the rabbits to have runs on grass there is a risk of spreading disease..."

There are several diseases which can be spread via communal runs when not sanitised between guests including Pasteurella, Coccidiosis, Bordetella Bronchiseptica

Health & Hygiene:

To maintain high levels of cleanliness and disease control a housekeeping service is provided daily for each guest to ensure comfort at all times.

All hutches are cleaned between guests and disinfected using a proprietary high level disinfectant cleaner which is safe for animal habitats, and which has been tested effective against, Bactericidal, Virucidal, Fungicidal, Microbacteriadal and Sporicidal activity.

Hand Sanitiser Alcohol Gel is used throughout the day, and always between handling rabbits or guinea pigs.

As part of our disease control procedure, all rabbits and guinea pigs receive a brand new Classic ball valve water bottle, provided free of charge upon arrival, which you are welcome to take home at the end of your pet's stay.

Our first time leaving our much loved house rabbit, the first time using Barnsley Bunny Boarding. Rachel and Richard run a professional, caring and very well designed boarding facility. We received regular updates whilst away, and Bob received complimentary grooming and nail clipping. We have already made further bookings despite living a 45 minute drive away. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Very happy

A perfect break for Guy Rachel and Richard looked after our precious bunny perfectly and even clipped her nails and gave her sideburns a trim. She returned home chilled and happy. We would definitely recommend, Thank you John and Sarah

I have 4 much loved house rabbits and have used Barnsley Bunny Boarding many times over the last few years. Rachel and Richard are brilliant. They have their own pet rabbits and from years of experience know all there is to know about rabbits and rabbit care. The rabbits are given their own spacious hutches and hygiene is paramount. Each rabbit is treated as 'special' and given individual attention. Rachel will also keep in contact with the owner, especially if you have any concerns about your rabbit. George (one of my rabbits) is prone to gut stasis but has always settled without any problems with Rachel and Richard. I highly recommend Rachel and Richard's Bunny Boarding. I know that my 4 rabbits will be safe and well cared for. Thank you Rachel and Richard.

I'm so glad I found you.. You are both a lovely couple, I was very nervous about leaving buster, he never been left before, he is a very nervy bunny, stresses a lot, not a big eater, I was so worried he was going to go into gi stasis, he has before, 3 times. But Rachael was lovely.. She put my mind at rest.. I would not hesitate to recommended this boarding.. I did visit 2 before I found Barnsley bunny.. All I can say is they needed to be closed down, I'm from Doncaster, but I will defintly be using Barnsley bunny again.. She even texted me while I was away to let me know how he was doing.. And he was fine... So I could enjoy my holiday..Fantastic place.. I was a very happy bunny xxx 💕🐰

We have boarded our house-rabbit Mr Jingles for 5 years and we would not dream of leaving him anywhere else! The owners are very knowledgable and obviously love rabbits with a passion. They are very friendly and offer us the best advice in caring for our little man. He is always very happy and settles in quickly (so much that he ignores us when we pick him up!) A big thank you to you both for looking after our baby xx

I have used Bunny Boarding on several occasions and found it absolutely 'tip top' for both accommodation and care for my 3 bunnies. You couldn't ask for better 5 * care and comfort. The proprietors provide first class care! Just excellent!
