Small Pet Boarding Information

About Our Boarding Service:

Hello and welcome to Happy Bunnies Holidays. We are a friendly, caring and professional family-run business offering high quality boarding accommodation for rabbits, guinea-pigs and other small pets.

We are members of the Rabbit Welfare Association and are fully insured.

My name is Kate and I grew up on a dairy farm surrounded by animals large and small including bovines and bunnies, horses and hamsters, pigs and guinea-pigs, dogs and ducks! I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1997 and for many years taught Animal Care and Animal Nursing Assistants at Writtle College. I currently work part time as nurse in a small animal practice in Colchester, running rabbit clinics for owners wanting advice on all aspects of rabbit care.

I am here to take the best possible care of your pet whilst you are on holiday or away from home for any other reason.

I understand that all animals and their needs are different. I try to cater for each individual pets requirements and will discuss this with you on your pets arrival.

We have ten hutches available and these become full very quickly particularly during school holidays. We like to try and get to know our guests as individuals and give them the attention they deserve.

You will be able to relax knowing that your pet will be well cared for by an animal lover with a lifetimes experience looking after animals.

Other small pets such as hamsters and gerbils are welcome but we ask that you provide their own cages, food and bedding materials.

Accommodation:

Obviously, the more space a bunny can have the better. I provide spacious, safe & secure indoor hutches which are cool during the summer and draught free and dry during the winter months. The 'Bunny House' is not heated but heat pads can be provided for those used to a little extra warmth during cold spells.

We now have six hutches which are 6' x 2' x 2' and these have become our 'standard' rabbit hutches.

Guinea-pigs and small rabbits such as Netherland dwarfs will be quite happy in our 4' x 2' hutches but of course can have the larger hutch if you wish.

Hutches are lined with wood-shavings and have copious quantities of good quality meadow hay. Bottles and bowls are provided. Please feel free to bring your pets own litter tray and litter (if different to shavings) and their favourite toy.

Exercise:

Rabbits and guinea-pigs enjoy the chance to exercise outdoors, either on our lawn or patio. Large (6ft x4ft x2ft high), secure, outdoor runs are available for all boarders - weather permitting. During wet, cold weather bunnies can exercise within the bunny house.

Health & Hygiene:

The health and welfare of all pets is paramount to us. Each guest will be given a daily health check which doubles up as a cuddle session!

Rabbits must have up to date vaccinations against Myxomatosis and Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD) - at least two weeks prior to arrival (NB: these vaccinations may be given at least two weeks apart). **Please bring certificate as proof of vaccination** We recommend treatment for internal and external parasites.

Should your pet be on any medication, I am able to administer it - please contact me with the details prior to booking.

Hutches will be cleaned every day and disinfected using a veterinary approved disinfectant between boarders. Fresh water, vegetables, delicious meadow hay and shavings are given daily.

We ask owners to bring your pet's own dried food to help avoid any tummy upsets that could occur with a change in diet.

Daily Price List

6ft x 2ft x 2ft hutches:

1 rabbit: £5.00
2nd rabbit (sharing): £2.00

4ft x 2ft hutches

1 guinea-pig / small rabbit: £4.50
2nd guinea-pig / small rabbit (sharing): £1.50

For each additional rabbit or guinea pig (sharing) please add £1.00

Prices include good quality meadow hay, fresh fruit/veg, water, shavings, daily health checks, cuddles, cleaning and pet insurance. Weather permitting your pet is able to spend the day in our spacious outdoor runs.

We require a deposit upon booking with the BALANCE PAID ON ARRIVAL by cash or cheque. For one hutch the deposit is £10.00 per week. For each pet sharing, an additional £5.00 per week is required.

The boarding charge includes the day your pet is brought to us and the day he/she leaves regardless of the time of day.

(Prices for other small pets start at £3.00 per day).

We do not charge extra for Christmas, Easter or Bank Holidays.
