About our Small Pet Boarding

I offer friendly, experienced insured boarding for small pets based in a peaceful area of Marchwood (near Southampton).

I specialise in indoor guinea pig boarding in high quality hutches with fleece bedding & hay racks.

We are opposite the New Forest and a short drive from central Southampton with easy main road access. I have over 30 years' experience of pet care and have been boarding professionally for 10 years.

Marchwood Guinea Pig Boarding is the 'sister' of Forest Pet Services, which offers dog walking. Some of our dog 'walkies' owners began asking if I could look after their guinea pigs and eventually, Marchwood Guinea Pig Boarding came about!

I have experience of boarding all sorts of pets including guinea pigs, hamsters, fancy rats, degus, tortoises, gerbils, parrots, budgies and geckos.

I work to an ethical code of conduct and welfare standards and am fully insured, DBS checked and licensed.

I run the business full time from home.

Accommodation:

Private safe, quiet, airy, light centrally heated designated boarding facilities with central heating, plus peaceful garden for guinea pigs and tortoises in good weather.

Smoke, security, CCTV and heat alarms throughout. Non smoking. Easy access and parking for drop offs and collection.

Large windows looking across garden for parrots and other pets in safe quiet room with all facilities.

Large secure garden with outdoor runs on grass available for guinea pigs, tortoises and small rabbits during good weather.

Large custom built indoor guinea pig hutches/runs available to use (minimum size 5ft x 2ft x 2ft for a pair of guinea pigs; 6ft x 2ft x 2ft for trios of guinea pigs). Outdoor garden runs for each guinea pig family if wished.

Rats, hamsters, degus etc - please bring your own cage as they are happiest in their familiar cage.

Parrots/birds - please bring a holiday cage for your parrot's stay with us as it helps them settle in.

Tortoises - we have 2 x indoor winter tortoise tables plus 2 x garden runs for summer. We have specialist lighting/heating, substrate & are experienced with feeding and baths. We can accommodate Horsefield/Russian, Hermann/Mediterranean/Greek spur thigh species.

We have CCTV and security alarms for peace of mind covering inside and outside areas.

Exercise:

Guinea pigs/tortoises - exercised in the garden on grass in covered runs in good weather if they are used to grass. We have indoor runs during colder months.

Parrots/birds - We are experienced with bird care and will follow your parrot's usual routine as much as possible, including toys, food and attention. Please note that we do NOT allow birds out of their cage while boarding as they will be in an unfamiliar environment, but will provide plenty of personal attention.

Hamsters etc - exercised as much as possible. We can provide an enclosed playpen for extra exercise during long stays.

Health & Hygiene:

We have good links with local vets including a guinea pig specialist and exotic pet specialist.

Only pet-safe and species specific cleaning products are used to clean cages, hutches and equipment.

If boarding at the same time as other birds, for the first board only, parrots/doves need to have had either a negative test for Psittacosis, or a pre boarding vet health check, from an avian vet to comply with our boarding regulations.

We may be able to administer simple medications to guinea pigs such as eye drops or prescribed medicine by mouth, by prior discussion and agreement with you only.

Regretfully we cannot board very sick (such as non eating/hunched/lethargic) pets, pets requiring syringe 'rescue' feeds, or any pet with an infectious disease.

Small Pet Boarding Prices

Guinea pigs - £6 per day for up to 2 bonded piggies sharing a hutch/£7 for 3 bonded pigs sharing a hutch

Budgies, hamsters, gerbils - £5 per cage

Parrots, cockatiels etc - £7-10 per day depending on size & individual requirements.

Lizards/reptiles £5 per tank per day

Tortoises - Summer months: £5 each per day. Winter months: £7 per day

Deposit required at time of booking with balance due on or before the first day of boarding.

Bank Holidays - a surcharge applies to all Bank Holidays

Payment accepted - cash, cheque or bank transfer.
