About our Small Pet Boarding

We board: RabbitsGuinea PigsBirdsHamsters, Mice etc.

Mantel Farm is a family run smallholding shop and animal boarding service in the heart of the East Sussex Countryside, selling Poultry, Beekeeping Equipment, Wildfowl, Pigs and Small Pets, Animal Housing, Runs, Animal Supplies, Feed and Equipment.

Mantel Farm's chicken boarding service was first established in 2007, we consider ourselves to have been the first to offer this service in the UK.

Bringing your birds to board with us means leaving your well loved family pets, or smallholding flock in the capable hands of those who know about poultry.

Your chickens will be housed together in their own adequately sized pen, which is totally secure from predators, being located within the walls of our main poultry barn.

Each pen contains its own feeder, drinker, grit hopper, nesting boxes and a roosting rail as standard. Optional extras are available on request and we can cater for specific treat or food requirements but extra cost may be involved.

Any eggs laid by your hens will be collected daily for you to take home when you collect your birds.

Layers pellets or mash will be provided along with a treat feed of corn in the afternoon. (unless you request otherwise)

If you would like to bring along extra treats for your birds, or if they require any special care, please complete the relevant section on our booking form.

We have a dedicated area in our barn for Chicken Trippers, with various sized pens to suit your requirements.

Health & Hygiene:

Being indoors, our pens are built on a solid concrete floor therefore enabling cleaning and disinfecting much more thorough than if they were kept on grass.

After cleaning, each pen is given a new floor of soft wood shavings providing a deep litter for your hens to enjoy.

Small Pet Boarding Prices

Chickens £2.50, Quail £2.50, Ducks £3.50, Rabbits £3.50, Guinea Pigs £3.50, all prices are per animal per night up to 16 nights (Min £25). For longer stays or large amounts of animals please contact us for a quote.

Other Services

NEW - Health Check... Are you concerned about the health of your flock? While your hens are staying with us in our 'Chicken Tripper' Boarding pens, why not let us carry out a health check? A general wellbeing examination will be carried out, including a check of the hens crop, an examination for fleas and lice and signs of being egg bound. Any beak trimming, toe trimming and wing clipping will be carried out if required (only with the authorisation of the owner). Samples will be sent to the laboratory for a worm count test and recommendation will be given upon your return. Our wellbeing examination can highlight any problems in your flock or give you peace of mind that all is OK.
The majority of these common poultry problems are treatable but if left can lead to less than perfect health and a reduction in egg production, so it makes sense to keep a check on the health status in your flock.

Assuming a start in Bexhill at the Junction of London Road and the A259:

Follow London Road all the way to the T-junction at the end.
Turn left at the T-junction and continue along Ninfield Road until you hit a roundabout.
Take the second exit at the roundabout and then the first right into Watermill Lane.
Follow Watermill Lane for just over 2 miles until you get to a junction with The Oast - Henley Down Farm on the left and go right and we are the next turning on the right. (There is a small sign saying Mantel Farm, you may see the sign for Iddons clearer.)
If you don't see The Oast - Henley Down Farm until it's too late, just take the next right and we should be second on the right.
