About our Home Boarding

Hello - my name is Maggie and I'm pleased to be back after moving from Essex to Essex\Suffolk border in May 2016. I offer this exclusive service of boarding only one pet (two from the same family) at a time. I started this business 18 years ago shortly after I lost my own lovely 14 year old Rough Collie, (the handsome Fella in my slideshow) I now get my 'doggie fix' looking after other cherished pets. Along the way making new friends with the owners too!

5* star boarding for your pet. I have some lovely reviews, you're invited to read them.

Now taking bookings. As an exclusive service, my diary quickly fills. Early enquiry to secure YOUR dates is essential.

No-one can guarantee, that dogs from different families, who are home boarded together would co-habit happily & safely. I take only ONE DOG AT A TIME (TWO FROM SAME FAMILY). This ensures that your pet(s) have a safe, relaxed and happy time with me. The only exception to this is on 'changeover days' when one pet is going home and another arriving.

Many pet owners book me before they arrange their own holiday.

I hold the ENHANCED CRB CERTIFICATE am FULLY INSURED and have many years experience with dogs of all breeds, medium and small.

I do not own a cat - or any other animal (I often get asked this)!

I am happy to text a mid-stay message/pic to your mobile phone while you're away, for your peace of mind. This has proved to be very popular.

As an experienced bird breeder, I'm also happy to board your feathered pet. Cage & food/water bowls cleaned daily.

Each and every dog that I look after is special to me. Once you have left your pet with me, I become their 'pack leader'. When you return, you resume that role! Just as it should be!

He/she is given all the love and attention that you hope for, with plenty of play and cuddles.

Your pet will have the run of the ground floor of my warm non smoking home, with bootroom and fully secure garden. I regret that I do not allow dogs upstairs, so pets that are used to sleeping in their owners bedroom cannot be catered for.

In the winter months I have a woodburner in my sitting room, which my doggie guests seem to love to stretch out in front of in the evenings, while I watch TV.

He/she will sleep in it's own bed (bed and food provided by you). I also welcome pets who like the security of a cage.

As far as possible I keep to the routine your pet enjoys at home, ie feeding/exercise times etc. and will be guided by you, the owner.

I live surrounded by beautiful Suffolk farmland and fields and normally exercise pets twice daily - but will follow your instructions regarding your pet's needs.

Your dog will be on a lead at all times while exercising (I use a long extending lead) unless I have your written permission to take him/her off lead, and I am confident that their recall is excellent. I have several different walks to chose from, so if your pet is nervous around other dogs, I can avoid that situation.

If I go out for the day, and with your permission, your pet will come with me. On nice sunny days we sometimes go to the coast.

Health & Hygiene:

My home is within a short drive to the nearest vet practice should a visit be necessary. I am happy to administer medication as and when required.

I ALWAYS invite owner and pet for interview, in my home, before taking a booking. This enables you to look around, hopefully like what you see, ask me any questions you may have and for me to meet your pet and be confident that he/she is well behaved, fully house trained and non-aggressive.

I also require your pet to have been recently wormed, to have up to date vaccinations and be free from fleas and ticks.

Home Boarding Prices

Unlike other boarding establishments I take only ONE dog (two from same family) at a time, therefore my terms and conditions are as follows:-

£50 deposit upon booking.
Balance of payment: 8 weeks prior to first day of your pets stay.

If you cancel, I will refund your fee in full if I can rebook your dates.

Fees as follows:- £20 per day.

£35 for 2 dogs from same family.

The minimum stay is two days at the daily rate.

10% Discount offered for stays of 3 weeks or longer.

Unlike many other carers, my fees DO NOT INCREASE during school or Bank holidays but regret NOT available over Christmas and New Year.

Caged birds - prices on request.
As an experienced bird keeper/breeder of many years, I enjoy caring for caged birds.

Other Services

You will note that my reviews are from several years ago, as due to moving house, I've had a break.
Now happily settled into my spacious new home, I am looking forward to welcoming your pet and renewing my friendship with many old ones.

Molly, our cockerpoo, stayed with Maggie in September- the first time she had stayed away from home for more than a night. We needn't have worried as she had a marvellous time - a real home from home - lots of walks, play and cuddles (from Brian as well as Maggie!) While we were away, Maggie sent photos and reassuring updates by text. The best testament is that when we visited a week later, Molly bounded out of the car and strained at the leash to get to Maggie's front door! We have booked our next holiday already!

We were delighted with the care and attention Moocher and Sky received in Maggie's home. They were both obviously content which was perfect as Sky can sometimes pine.

As for any dog owner leaving your dog is always a nervous time. You never know how or if they are going to settle, but we needn't have worried. Finn, our miniature schnauzer, felt at home with Maggie straight away. Maggie's friendly and loving nature towards Finn more than put our minds at rest. He was so relaxed when he came home we think he wanted to stay. Within days of coming home we have already booked again to make sure he is in the best hands possible for when we are away.

We boarded Phoebe our Cockerpoo with Maggie and she thrived. I was anxious she might pine for us as it was the first time she'd been left, but Maggie is very knowledgeable about dog behaviour and has had years of experience looking after many different breeds. She reassured me that she would be fine. Phoebe was just as fit, lively and loving when we collected her as when we left her. She has slipped seamlessly back into her old routine and I'm sure she enjoyed her holiday with Maggie as much as we did ours in America. The one to one loving care your dog receives from Maggie is like leaving your dog at home. Highly recommended.

Just wanted to say a big Thank You for having Beau & Arrow. I cannot think of more beautiful place for them stay while we are on holiday, than your lovely home. They obviously had a lovely time with you, as we did not hear a peep out of them all night when we got home. Two very happy satisfied dogs. Look forward to seeing you in November.

My dog Toby (the old golden retriever in some of the photos) stayed with Maggie on many occasions. He loved going to stay with her, and used to get excited when we got near to her house. On a couple of occasions in his later life he became ill whilst staying with her, once quite seriously, and she dealt with him promptly and with great care. When he died recently she was nearly as upset as we were. I visit her house often and see the parade of dogs that she has staying, and they are all happy and well cared for, even the more difficult cases. I would recommend her to anybody looking for a safe, loving environment for their dog.

Maggie looked after our staffie very well. We hated the thought of kennels for our lovely family dog but Maggie treated our lovely pet very well and our dog seemed very happy and relaxed. We will definatley use her again.

A great place for our dogs to have a holiday. Our Basset Hound can be a bit of a handful and is also a bit of a baby so we were a little worried about her, but Maggie has worked her out and they have a lovely understanding. So pleased we have found Maggie.

As a dog lover I never thought anybody could look after my dog the way I did and was always worried about leaving him with somebody else. But then I found Maggie!!! She looked after him and more importantly, loved him as I did. He loved his holidays with her. We were very lucky to have found her!

Maggie is great with dogs! Our 2yr old collie Poppy has stayed with her 3 times now. Poppy is a bit neurotic and we were worried about leaving her. After a long search we found Maggie. Poppy loves spending time there, always pulling our arm off when we arrive at the house. Its such a relief to find someone who loves Poppy and embraces her individuality! We already have one booking made for next year!
