About our Home Boarding

We are a small business based in the south Leicester area offering dog walking, home holiday boarding for dogs and holiday cat care. We are committed to providing a professional and reliable service suited to your pet’s individual needs. We understand the important role your dog or cat plays in your life and we promise to care for your pet as if it was our own.

I am Jill and until my early retirement in 2011 I was a teacher in a Leicester secondary school, where I had worked for 35 years. Along with my husband, Ron, who is about to retire, I am also a keen runner. We own a 3 year old sprocker spaniel called Lily.

I am a fully registered member of the National Association of Registered Pet Sitters, (NarpsUK – see their website at for further details).

I hold a current DBS certificates (DBS No: 001522384924) and I am fully insured with Pet Business Insurance (Policy number: PBB0416023) for your pet’s protection. I also hold a Dog First Aid Certificate.

We hold a local authority licence for Home Boarding Licence from Blaby District Council, It is illegal to provide home boarding without a valid licence.

We offer our friendly home environment as an alternative to boarding kennels. As a dog owner we know how important it is to have peace of mind that your dog will be cared for and happy when you are away. Your dog will live as a member of our family alongside our sprocker spaniel, Lily. We can accommodate your dog’s normal daily routine: it will eat its normal food and sleep in its own bed.
We will never mix dogs from other families and will only take board 1 or 2 dogs from the same family at any one time.
Your dog will be walked twice a day and will not be left alone for long periods of time. They will benefit from our 200ft long secure garden, but will not be allowed in the garden without supervision. Our house is totally secure: there is no access from the front of the house other than through the front door and garage, so your dog will not have the chance to escape.

We offer one-to-one dog walking or walks alongside our own sprocker spaniel, Lily. We will always adjust our walks to your dog’s pace, but if you have an active dog we are happy to run with them to give them maximum exercise. As we have our own dog and are keen runners we are not at all deterred by bad weather.

Our dog/walker ratio is always a maximum of 2:1. We will not walk large groups of dogs so that your dog receives our full attention, we maintain full control and everyone remains safe at all times.

We do not use vans to transport dogs and we will come to your house and walk your dog in a familiar area. Wherever possible, we will use a variety of locations for walks depending on where you live. Dogs are kept on a lead at all times unless written permission has been given in advance.

Health & Hygiene:

Your dog must be house trained and sociable. We reserve the right not to accept certain breeds of dogs. Your dog must be fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and free from parasites. We cannot accept un-neutered males or females who are due come into season.

We always require an initial face-to-face familiarisation visit to meet your dog, discuss your requirements and see all relevant documentation. We also will need the details of an emergency contact whilst you are away. This familiarisation visit will allow you to assure yourself that your dog will receive the best possible care, and for us to be sure that your dog will fit into our home environment.

Our baby (Izzy) has had a wonderful holiday with Jill, ron and Lily!. We were a little apprehensive about leaving her for 9 days, but with regular updates and photos via Facebook we could see that she was having a whale of a time and lots of adventures. After Izzy spent an afternoon with Jill and Lily prior to her main holiday we just knew that she would be cared for as if she was their own dog and we could relax whilst we were away. We have already booked another holiday for Izzy with the gang and cannot recommend them highly enough.

I am so glad I found Jill and Ron. Buddy is even happier. I was nervous about leaving Buddy as he is a rescue and can be temperamental and I have only ever left him in kennels before. It turned out better than I could have hoped. He was clearly loved and looked after the same if not better than at home - treated to lots of walks, breakfast treats at Greggs, organic sausage, swimming in the canal, trips to Bradgate Park, playing dog tennis with Lily and best of all, he learnt to be off lead. The photo updates on Facebook were a joy to see to keep an eye on what the horror was up too! My preference will be to always use Mucky Paws.

Jill and Ron have been absolutely wonderful! Outstanding even. Clementine had a whale of a time!! Jill sent us picture after picture over Facebook of Clementine going on long walks ( 15K a day!), snuggling up on laps and occasionally receiving the odd treat ; ). It was wonderful to have those pictures and videos coming our way, because it meant we didn't miss Clemmie quite so much and saw with our own eyes that her holiday was just as good as ours. She made excellent friends with a lovely spaniel -cross and they were apparently "inseparable" throughout. Lilly (the spaniel) even somehow managed to get our cat in dog's clothing to paddle in a puddle (and unfortunately Clementine taught Lily to bark at the window. Oops.) She was loved by all there and had a brilliant time, Jill even said she was sad to see Clemmie go (much to our relief that Clementine hadn't managed to disgrace herself in someway or another). Well, I assure you Jill, you'll definitely see her again.

I was nervous about sending my Shih-Tzu, Bertie, to any sort of boarding as, even at 7 years old, he had not boarded before but am so pleased I chose Mucky Paws Leicester. Jill looked after him as if he was her own and sent me photos of him so I could see he was OK. I cannot recommend Mucky Paws Leicester highly enough, Bertie was happy and very laid back when he came home. Thank you Mucky Paws, thank you Jill, I will definitely use you again.
